I fell in love with The GIMP ever since I started using it about 6 months ago to demonstrate the stall during the FSTival last year and I have used it for all kinds of image editing ever since.So,when we decided to create a CD Label, my first choice was the GIMP.After some amount of Googling, I decided that I couldn't have made a better choice.
It is not all that difficult.All you have to do is first copy everything from this link and paste it in Gedit or whatever Text Editor you use.Save the file with extension .scm.Now open your Home folder and press Ctrl+H to view all hidden folders and files (there is a wealth of information out there in those hidden folders- more about it in another post though).Now copy the scm file you just saved and open the folder .gimp-2.2 and then the subfolder scripts and paste the scm folder here.
Now open GIMP from the menu and in the GIMP menubar go to Xtns>ScriptFu>Misc>CDLabel.If the CD Label option can't be found you probably messed up while pasting the scm file.In the dialog that opens,as you can see the Script even supports MiniCDs.Just leave the Diameter option unchanged but adjust the Background Color to your liking.
The next step?Hey,there is no next step.You just gotta edit it like any other image and you have your own CD Label ready.
If you have printers that support Printing directly on CDs,great.If not , I guess you have to cut off the unnecessary part from the paper.I have not actually tried out the printing part ,so do let me know if you end up with any problems there.

"NACL?? What's NaCl?"
"I have a Dream...that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers."-so said Martin Luther King in what was arguably the greatest speech ever made by any species of the Earth.
Sadly , he won't be around when ,in a few days from now, Barack Husein Obama will take oath as America's 44th President far exceeding even King's biggest dreams on that day about half a century ago.It would have indeed been quite unfathomable only a few years ago that a black man of African origin ,whose middle name is Husein and whose last name rhymes with Osama, would win over the American people to take charge as USA's Commander-in-Chief.
If you thought this blog was yet another political essay on why Obama deserves Time's "Person of the Year" award ,wait! My blog's protagonist is actually his more (in)famous predecessor, perhaps America's most hated president George W Bush.A few days ago I stumbled upon a BBC article titled "The 'misuderestimated' president "which listed some of Bush's tounge-slips,many of which are highly hilarious.I promptly bookmarked it for follow-up.And so,here we are.A few picks which seemed most humorous to me:
"They misunderestimated me." Arkansas, 6 November, 2000
"I want to thank my friend, Senator Bill Frist, for joining us today. He married a Texas girl, I want you to know. Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me."
"The ambassador and the general were briefing me on the - the vast majority of Iraqis want to live in a peaceful, free world. And we will find these people and we will bring them to justice."
"It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it."
"It would be a mistake for the United States Senate to allow any kind of human cloning to come out of that chamber."
"I have a different vision of leadership. A leadership is someone who brings people together."
Of course , when I talk about Bush's slip-ups, my friends would probably recall two statements that he did not make:
"N-A-C-L?What's NaCl" and "Can't we just drop some...nuclear weapons over it?"
But all those quoatable quotes and even more in the BBC site left me ROFLing for several minutes before concluding that US must be even more thankful to see an intellectual man like Obama succeed Bush.
An interesting postscript: I tried SpellCheck after completing my blog just to ensure that I ended up with no Bushism myself.And here's the result: "Osama" has been flagged as an error and topping the list of corrections is "Obama"!Wow...Obama is in the dictionary and Osama is not!Sign of the times?
